A randomized controlled trial Membership Spearmint herbal tea has significant antiandrogen effects on polycystic ovary syndrome. A randomized controlled trial Author Membership Summary Hirsutism in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a consequence of high levels of androgen leads to significant cosmetic and psychological problems. Recent research in Turkey has shown that mint tea has anti-androgenic properties in women with hirhistism. No research has yet been conducted to assess whether a reduction in androgen levels caused by mint tea results in a clinical improvement in the degree of hirsutism. This study was a randomized controlled trial of two centers, 30 days. Forty-two volunteers were randomized to take mint tea twice a day for a period of 1 month and compared to a placebo herb tea. At 0, 15 and 30 days of the study the levels of serum and androgen hormones and gonadotrophins were reviewed, the degree of hirsutism was clinically valued using the Ferriman-Galwey score and a questionnaire (the modified DQLI = Dermatology Quality of Life Index) was used to evaluate improvements in the self-reported level of hirsutism. Forty of the 42 patients finished the study. The free and total testosterone levels were significantly reduced during the 30-day period in the spice tea group (p. The HCL and FSH also increased (p ≤ 0.05). The patient's subjective evaluations of her degree of hirsutism scored by the modified DQLI were significantly reduced in the mint tea group (p. However, there was no significant reduction in the objective of ferriman-Galwey qualifications of hirtuism between the two test groups during the duration of the trial (p = 0.12). There was a clear and significant alteration in the relevant hormone levels. This is clinically associated with a reduction in the self-reported degree of hirsutism, but unfortunately not with the objective score. It was demonstrated and confirmed that mint has antiandrogen properties, the simple fact that this is not clearly translated into clinical practice is due to the relationship between androgen hormones and follicular hair growth and cell rotation time. In short, the duration of the study was not enough. Turkey's original studies were in fact only 5 days. The time needed for hirsutism to resolve is significant and a much longer future study is proposed, as preliminary findings are encouraging that mint has the potential for use as a useful and natural treatment for hirsutism in PCOS. Do not delay your attention in Mayo ClinicRemarked conditions OverviewThe pain of the beast (mastalgia) can be described as tenderness, agitation, sharpening, stabbing, burning pain or stiffness in the breast tissue. Pain can be constant or can occur only occasionally, and can occur in men, women, and transgender people. Breast pain may vary from mild to severe. It may occur:In men, breast pain is most commonly caused by a condition called "gynecomastia" (guy-nuh-koh-MAS-tee-uh). This refers to an increase in the amount of tissue of the breast gland that is caused by an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone hormones. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes uneven. In transgender women, hormonal therapy can cause breast pain. In transgender men, breast pain can be caused by the minimum amount of breast tissue that can remain after a mastectomy. Most of the time, breast pain indicates a noncancer (benign) condition and rarely indicates breast cancer. The unexplained breast pain that does not go away after one or two menstrual cycles, or that persists after menopause, or the breast pain that does not appear to be related to hormonal changes needs to be evaluated. Products & ServicesSymptoms Breast pain can be cyclic or non-cyclical. Cyclic means that pain occurs in a regular pattern. Nocyclic means that pain is constant, or that there is no regular pattern. Each type of breast pain has different characteristics. Characteristics of breast pain Cyclic breast pain Non-cyclical breast pain Extramammary breast pain The term "extramamary" means "outside the chest". Extramammary breast pain feels like it started in the breast tissue, but its source is actually out of the breast area. For example, carrying a muscle in the chest can cause pain in the chest wall or in the rib cage that extends (radiates) to the breast. Arthritis involving cartilage in the chest, also known as costchondritis, can also cause pain. When to See a Doctor Make an appointment with your doctor if your breast pain: Your breast cancer risk is very low in people whose main symptom is breast pain, but if your doctor recommends an evaluation, it is important to move on. CausesThe change in hormone levels can cause changes in milk ducts or dairy glands. These changes in the ducts and glands can cause breast cysts, which can be painful and are a common cause of cyclic breast pain. Non-cyclic breast pain can be caused by trauma, previous breast surgery, or other factors. Sometimes it is not possible to identify the exact cause of breast pain, but some factors may increase the risk. Risk Factors Breast pain is more common among people who have not completed menopause, although it may occur after menopause. Breast pain can also occur in men who have gynecomastia, and in transgender people who are experiencing gender reassignment. Other factors that may increase the risk of breast pain include: Prevention The following steps can help prevent the causes of breast pain, although more research is needed to determine its effectiveness.
